COLOMBO :
The commercial capital of Sri Lanka a blend of
east and west. Population about 700,000. In 14th century a Chinese
trader visited here and called Kao-lan-pu, and latter its derived
to co-lon-bu. Colombo is a commercial hub and bastion and main sea
port in Sri Lanka for nearly 5 centuries under Portuguese (1505-1656),
Dutch (1656-1796) and British (1796-1948) and since then. The country
became independence and still with colonial heritage to memorize
the past Roman Dutch law, colonial architecture and many more colonial
influence. The Galle face hotel, Grand Oriental Hotel and Mt.Lavinia
Hotel still with colonial past. Fort Railway station, Dutch Museum,
Wolvendaal Church, Kayman Gate, St.Lucias Cathedral, St, Anthony's
Church and Hindu shrines of Muthumariamman Kovil, Pillair Kovil
of Wellawatta and many more old Buddhist temples, Hindu Kovils and

NEGOMBO :
The city is fishing town and famous for gourmet
paradise with seafood lobster, praws, shrimp are delicacy and mouth
watering. The grooves of Coconut palms and most of the industries
are related to them the sweet sap (toddy) extract from coconut flower
make strong local alcoholic beverage call Arrack a native Whisky.
Coconut tree is a treasure for Sri Lankans. Negombo is Fort city
for Portuguese during their stay and Dutch also govern the area
with commercial interest. Still the colonial architecture will give
the past memeory. More Roman catholic devotees can see many chuches
and colourfull annual feast in St.Sebastian, St Ann's churches dedicated
to the saints. Distance to Colombo 35 km/to airport 8 km.
BERUWALA :
A South Western beach resort area 55 km south of
Colombo, palm fringe sandy beaches and fresh seafood is available
right from the sea. Coconut plantation and related industries are
plenty. A Cinnamon cultivation is second to coconut plantation .Sea
bathing is all year round but avoided during monsoon rainy season.
Large population of Muslim in this area and oldest Moorish trading
port during Portuguese era and even before the trade between Persian
Gulf and red Sea port for mainly cinnamon and other spices, Aricanut/Beetle
nut a chewing palm fruit and beetle leaves, precious stones, Gems,
Abony.Cinnamon and other spices for Persian Gulf and to Red sea
ports. Population about 136,000.
BENTOTA :
64 km south of Colombo. A south western beach resort
a sandy beaches to relax and sea bath. A rendezvous of Bentota River
and sea ideal for sea sports. The sea is mostly calm. Bentota is
a British resting place en-route to Galle and Matara a southern
ruling seats during colonial time. Coconut plantation and related
industries are many. Population about 48,000.
HIKKADUWA :

A beach resort 99 km south of Colombo. Water sports and underwater
delights and scuba diving spot to watch famed coral gardens.
Unfortunately the coral reef them selves are slowly dying.
Many varieties of fish and turtles can observe and the few
turtle hatcheries preserve endangered species. Coconut plantation
and little Cinnamon cultivation are major industries. Population
97,000. |

GALLE :
|
Capital city
of Southern province as its natural harbour and Famous Galle
Dutch Fort. Galle harbor was earlier a Moorish trading port
incidentally the Portuguese invaders landed here in 1505 and
they named the place 'Punto de Gale'. Nearly five centuries
it was under Portuguese, Dutch and British rulers and Dutch
built present Fort. Many buildings with Dutch Colonial character.
