FORT MUSEUM
Located within Fort St George on Beach Road(Kamaraj Salai). Contains
a treasure chest of early writings on Chennai, Paintings of the
colonial era, rare coins, & Artefacts. Open on 0900-1700 hrs.
Closed on Friday
BEACHES
KOVALAM BEACH : On the way to Mahabalipuram, Luxury beach
resort, has fort built by the Nawab of Carnatic.
MARINA BEACH : Second longest beach in the world.
Running 12 km in length. Given a great facelift by governor Mountstuart
Elphinstone Grant Duff in the early 1880s. The lighthouse stands
48m above sea level at the southern end of the Marina. Do have the
tasty 'pattani sundal', 'murruku' & sliced raw mangoes here.
ELLIOTTS BEACH : At Besantnagar. Used to be a
popular bathing beach. Favourite evening hangout for the young and
trendy. Good beach-side restaurants, illuminated sands. Among the
most popular beaches for the yuppie Chennaiite.
PARKS
GUINDY SNAKE PARK : Next to Children's park, Guindy. Open
on 0830-1730 hrs. Closed on Tuesday.
VEDANTHANGAL BIRD SANCTURY : For rest House reservation,
contact the Wildlife Warden, #49-4th Main Road, Adyar,Chennai-20
Open on 0900-1930 hrs.
CROCODILE BANK : 42km, on Mahabalipuram Road.
